Country Dancing - The Madcaps Group
Madcaps is a club to enjoy English Country and Playford dances. Playford dances were taught by dancing masters in the 18th century. You see Playford dancing in costume dramas like “Jane Eyre” and “Pride and Prejudice”. We have been dancing as a group for about 35 years. We were the first group to use the new Village Hall. The Club welcomes new members, even if they are absolute beginners. All our dances are called and members try to be helpful to newcomers. We have four callers of our own who use taped music and about once a month we have a caller and musicians from the thriving folk community of Devon. We meet from September to May, not on bank holidays, from at 7:45pm to 9:45pm with a break for refreshments. Our chief aim is enjoyment and Monday evenings in the Hall are full of laughter and happiness. At present it costs £1 for membership for a year and £1 for each evening's dancing. If you want to try an evening it will cost you £1.50. If you want any further information please phone Jean Fillan at 01803 866380, Audrey Johnson at 01803 557099.
